The Mego Corporations Worlds Greatest Super-Pirates hit the shelves circa 1975 with characters such as Black Beard, Captain Patch, Long John Silver and the ever elusive Jean Lafitte. Rumor has it that a fifth Pirate was to be included in the line which to date hasnt yet been discovered but seeing as how discoveries are still being made to this day almost anything is possible when your talking Mego's.

The figures were released in an attractive window box which included eye catching artwork that was sure to catch the eye of children. Seeing as how the Mego Corporation was a media driven company they escaped having to pay licensing fee's due to the characters being private domain. Their colorful costumes and numerous accessories made these figures a sure fire hit both originally at retain and with collectors to date. The Worlds Greatest Super-Pirates line continues to be highly sought after with a complete set costing upwards of $1100.00 with Jean Lafitte running approximately $375.00 for a boxed specimen. Once you combine their detailed facial sculpts, colorful costumes, nifty accessories, ear rings, parrots, swords and their eye catching packaging,  its no wonder these are right up there amongst collector favorites.

A Pirates Castle was rumored to be planned which unfortunately never materialized. One can only hope that someday a castle will be discovered so collectors can display thier Pirates in a diorama type setting.
