About Us
|
Us is two people, one who is currently active and the other who is gone (not deceased, just retired). The us member who went onto bigger and better things is Sean Griffen. He started Mego Central. Thanks Sean for all of your hard work (Sean has been immortalized in the Customs gallery so check out his work). The other member of us is me, who has a name, Laurie Halbritter, and who is currently revising and expanding this website. I acquired the site from Sean in the summer of 2000 and have made a lot of additions and changes since then, while trying to maintain the "spirit" of Mego Central. I've been collecting figures since I was a kid. I was anal-retentive, saved the boxes. Unfortunately, I threw the cards away but at least my figures were allowed to be free (for a time)..... The boxed figures, to their dismay, were returned to their boxes around the onset of puberty and continue to stare angrily through cellophane at the dusty, contaminated world around them. As a comic-reading, Mego-collecting kid, I thought that the only two people who collected Megos were Kevin Almond, my neighbor down the road and myself. Every month or so we'd get together and compare our "stock," salivating over the other's latest acquisitions (I was more of a DC kid, while he was an avid Marvel fan). When teenagerdom descended, I carefully packed the dolls away, sold the comics and went onto other less interesting teenager things (like makeup, the Police and, ugh, hair-curling). It was a sudden death (for me AND the dolls). In my nearly makeup-free adult life (it's sort of adult, I guess), I discovered the collectibles boom on the internet, was overcome by powerful feelings of nostalgia, and, well, you know the rest; now I'm a toy junkie. Along with Mego figures, I collect knock-offs and monster toys. When I'm not wheeling and dealing on the internet, I make custom figures, paint and look for a job. Check out the customs gallery on this site for customs by others (and myself). Also, here's a link to my painting site if you care to peek into my other life: http://stu.wccnet.org/~hlj102 Enjoy the site and happy Megoing. Laurie
